Built for depth, not breadth.
The US-PAK Policy and Leadership Institute is Washington's Pakistan desk: a research and convening institution whose entire mandate is the US-Pakistan relationship.
One country. The whole mandate.
Every existing institution in Washington covers Pakistan as one country on a shared regional desk. We exist to give it the depth, speed, and access that a shared desk cannot, through rigorous research, direct engagement with Congress and the diaspora, and briefings for policymakers and media.
Three commitments
Exclusive focus
Pakistan is the whole mandate, not one entry on a shared regional desk. Every program, hire and publication exists to deepen that one relationship.
Speed
A dedicated desk can respond to developments as they happen, with briefings and analysis ready when policymakers need them.
Access
Convening Congress, the diaspora, the private sector and senior former officials around a single, sustained conversation on Pakistan.
Syed Saleem
As Founding Chairman, Syed Saleem sets the Institute's direction and is building an independent Washington institution focused on results. Based in the D.C. region, he has founded two U.S. companies and led trade work linking Georgia, Maryland and Pakistan.
Accountable by design
Executive Committee
Three members hold unanimous authority over strategic decisions for the Institute.
Board of Directors
Holds ultimate authority and provides fiduciary oversight, delegating daily decisions to the Executive Committee.
Board of Advisors
Senior former officials and private sector leaders offering counsel and access. Advisory only, with no governance authority.
